Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

How to Apply

We are a non-selective Academy open to pupils of all religious faiths and those of no faith.  Admissions at Oasis Academy Johanna are co-ordinated under the Common Application Form via the London Borough of Lambeth. If you are a parent or carer and wish to apply for a place at Oasis Academy Johanna for the following September, you will need to complete the Common Application Form via the London Borough of Lambeth website.

We have 30 Reception places each year, however, if you are seeking a place for your child at any other time of the academic year, you will need to contact the London Borough of Lambeth admissions team.

Please contact us directly for Nursery admissions.  Alternatively, download a Nursery Application and return it to the school office once completed.  Please note, an admission to Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception.

How places will be allocated

Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the places available, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below. After the admission of pupils with statements of Special Educational Needs where the Academy is named on the statement, the criteria will be applied in the order in which they are set out below:

  1. Children in public care.
  2. Admission of pupils whose siblings currently attend the Academy and who will continue to do so on the date of admission. The term “sibling” means a full, half, adopted or fostered brother or sister, or other child living permanently within the same household. The Academy reserves the right to ask for proof of relationship.
  3. Children for whom the Academy is appropriate on genuine medical or social grounds. Such applications will be decided by the Academy Council or nominated panel. (Applications on medical grounds will only be considered under this criterion if they are supported by an attached written statement from a doctor. This must demonstrate that there is a very specific connection between the child’s medical need and the Academy requested).
  4. Admission of pupils on the basis of proximity to the Academy using straight line measurement from the main entrance of the Academy to the main entrance to the child’s home. The distance used to determine how close the child lives to the Academy will be the direct line measurement from the front door of the permanent home address to the main entrance to the Academy site. The child’s permanent home address is where he or she normally lives and sleeps and goes to school from. Proof of residence can be requested at any time throughout the admissions process. If false or misleading information is used to gain entry to the Academy, the offer of a place will be withdrawn.

If there are more applicants than there are places remaining within a particular category and where there is no difference in distance from home to school for two or more children, random allocation will be used to allocate the final available place(s) and to establish priority on the waiting list.

  1. We are known as an inclusive school with an excellent track record of supporting children with SEND and many parents of children with SEND choose to name us on their child’s Statement of SEN or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC). Where a child has a Statement or EHC, the local authority will consult us on whether we can meet the child’s needs. Generally, we will say yes to any child who would like to attend here. However, in exceptional circumstances we will, regrettably, be unable to offer a place.  This tends to be where there is a class which is already above 30 due to another child with a Statement/EHC, or where there are already a number of children in the same class with Statements/EHCs – the placement would still be considered but we would also have to think about physical space for wheelchairs, etc., as well as the impact of an over-full classroom on children with sensory, language or social needs. Children without a Statement or EHC are admitted according to our standard admissions criteria (having SEND does not help or hinder their chances of a school place).

Please note: The admissions criteria above are those of our Local Authority for community schools. There is an appeals process and all Oasis Academies follow the nationally agreed Guide to Education Admission Appeal.
