Reception
Welcome to Oasis Academy Johanna's Reception Class (also known as Red Class)
Our Reception Class setting offers the best possible start for all children, as they embark on their learning journey. We provide a creative and purposeful learning environment, offering a range of experiences where children feel nurtured, safe and secure, enabling them to become confident and independent individuals.
We believe that having access to high-quality provision has a significant impact on your child’s social, emotional and language development. Our Reception Class ensures a solid foundation for all children as they develop a love of learning and engage in the values and ethos of our school community. We work in partnership with you to enhance the educational opportunities and outcomes for your child.
Our Reception Class provides exceptional education and was rated Outstanding in our last Ofsted inspection.
Early Years and Foundation Stage
Our team of experienced Early Years practitioners support children through modelling positive relationships, making learning fun and challenging, monitoring children’s progress carefully and providing early individual support for each child.
The Reception curriculum recognises that children learn best through play and active learning. We encourage children to engage in a variety of activities; they learn through a carefully-balanced mix of adult-led and child-led play in each of the seven key areas of learning and development. We follow a topic-based curriculum and follow the interests of our children in our continuous provision.
At the end of the Foundation Stage, we build in more structured learning for our children so that they are ready to make a smooth transition into Year 1.
The curriculum is planned around four main themes:
- A Unique Child: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
- Positive Relationships: So that children feel safe and cared for.
- Enabling Environments: We provide a rich and varied environment which supports children’s learning and development. It gives them the confidence to explore and learn in secure and safe yet challenging, indoor and outdoor space.
- Learning and Development: Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. In their play, children learn at their highest levels. We provide wide ranging and varied topics that engage and involve children for sustained periods.
These are comprised of seven areas of learning and development:
Three Prime Areas |
PSED - Personal Social Emotional Development |
C&L - Communication and Language |
PD - Physical Development |
Four Specific Areas |
Literacy |
Mathematics |
Understanding the World |
Expressive Art and Design |
